Bear Beadwork has long been my passion. Since I began beading in 2014, creating art has been my anchor. I often say, “If I’m not beading, I’m not in a good headspace.” My love for creation began in childhood, making videos with my best friends for our YouTube channel. I would take on the role of editor, producer, and marketer, all while encouraging viewers to “check it out, check it out, check it out.” At the time, I didn’t realize I was honing skills that would follow me into adulthood.
In 2021, driven by a desire to deepen my knowledge, I decided to return to school. Although I wasn’t sure what I wanted to study, I knew I wanted to learn more. I applied for certificates in Film and Indigenous Counseling—both of which I completed in 2023. Now, I’ve opted to continue my education further and pursue a Master’s in Education in Counseling over the past two years finishing my practicum this Fall in my home community.
So, how do I manage it all? I'm fortunate to have a supportive partner who helps maintain balance at home while I dive into my studies. I also appreciate having a job that accommodates my academic pursuits, and I’ve learned to recognize my limits (most of the time!). I truly couldn’t achieve all that I do without the encouragement of my employment and my partner.
In the past two years, I’ve ventured into filmmaking, spending six weeks in Winnipeg and eight weeks in British Columbia. The distance from my family has been a significant challenge, yet I’m endlessly grateful for my partner's unwavering support.
I carry my beads wherever I go, adapting my business to thrive even when I’m away from home. In Winnipeg, I shipped orders from Treaty 7 Territory, and in British Columbia, I kept my website closed but continued to create new inventory.
So, once again, how do I manage it all?
- A supportive network: I owe much of my success to my partner and employer.
- Being flexible: I understand when and how to adjust my business to meet my needs.
- Self-belief: Confidence in my abilities is essential.
- Self-Care: Recognizing when it’s time to take a break and recharge.
Through passion, support, and adaptability, I navigate the complexities of my multifaceted life.
