From Craft to Cinema: Bear Beadwork’s Inspiring Transformation (Powwow Pitch 2024)

On July 27, 2024, Bear Beadwork proudly participated in Neqotkuk’s Powwow Pitch (https://www.powwowpitch.org/), an initiative dedicated to supporting Indigenous entrepreneurs in fostering and accelerating their business growth.

During my pitch for Bear Beadwork, I highlighted the dedication and achievements that have shaped the business over the past decade. My vision is to evolve Bear Beadwork into a film production company, all while preserving the core elements that make it unique—a creative platform for exploring various Indigenous art forms, rooted in beadwork, traditional regalia, and other artistic expressions.

As I navigate this transition into the film industry, I have gained valuable experience through a range of independent projects, as well as working on shows like Race Against the Tide and Spirit Talker. My passion for film drives my ambition to enrich the industry within Wabanaki Territory.

I had the opportunity to present to a panel of judges and was thrilled to be selected for the second pitch round among the top 10 competitors. Under the guidance of a mentor, I refined my pitch and shared it at the Neqotkuk Powwow, receiving an overwhelming outpouring of support from my community as I entered the arena.

I am proud to share that I placed 2nd and was awarded $2,500 to further my vision. Furthermore, I have been invited to compete for a $25,000 grand prize in August 2024, and I couldn't be more excited about the journey ahead.

I am excited to inspire and empower voices to share their stories through this new chapter of Bear Beadwork, and I take great pride in this endeavor.
