Hello, lovely readers! As we step into 2025, I’m thrilled to share something exciting with you all—my very first sale of the year is here! I’m launching a brand new floral collection and, drumroll please... I’ve finally added ribbon skirts to my inventory!
Let’s take a moment to talk about the floral collection. I've always had a soft spot for them, and my journey with floral designs began with a simple purple tulip. Fun fact: I even have a purple tulip tattooed on the back of my left arm and to be honest, I haven’t always loved that tattoo. Back in 2019, I beaded my first tulip inspired by the tattoo. I launched a collection featuring different colored tulips. However, after that initial burst of creativity, life got busy, and I never revisited those designs.
One of my dear friends and loyal customers frequently reminds me of my tulip collection. She wears a pair of tulip earrings with her regalia and often shares how many compliments she receives. Her encouragement finally spurred me to bring them back—but this time, in a mini version, which you’ll discover in my new launch! The other floral designs are inspired by my personal love for flowers and my desire to experiment with different colors. I have plans to create mini versions of these new florals and eventually tackle the larger tulips again.
Now, let’s talk about those much-anticipated ribbon skirts! This has been a dream of mine for quite some time, but I kept putting it off for a variety of reasons:
- Time constraints
- Lack of supplies
- Uncertainty about my sewing skills
However, last summer, I took the plunge and treated myself to a beginner sewing machine. My first project was a peaked cap, a skill I picked up in a class at STU. Riding that wave of newfound confidence, I decided to tackle a ribbon skirt for the premiere of ‘A Walk In My Moccasins.’ While it didn’t turn out exactly as I had envisioned, it was a significant step towards making ribbon skirts.
I began making pot holders and shared my limited sewing experience with clients through workshops held in my community. This experience helped boost my confidence, and during the Christmas break, I upgraded to a new sewing machine—gifting my old one to my sister.
However, when I tried to create a ribbon skirt in my studio, I quickly realized I was a bit crammed for space. It became apparent that I needed to organize my workspace. For my birthday, my partner and I took a trip to Quebec, where we stopped by IKEA. I picked up some shelves and set to work cleaning out my studio. This process allowed me to arrange everything I needed, creating more space for creativity.
With a clearer workspace, the right tools, and a newly found confidence, I finally embarked on making ribbon skirts. I completed five beautiful pieces that I can't wait to share with all of you!
Looking forward, I’m excited to explore new projects in sewing and am hoping to try my hand at making dresses and pants as well.
Thank you for taking the time to read about my creative journey! I can’t wait for you to see the new collection and to join me on this exciting adventure in 2025!
Stay inspired,
Asha
